Original patterned green cloth (botanical motif) with lettering stamped in gilt. Author's first book. This work gives Niebuhr's critique of capitalism based on his observations of the automobile industry while he lived in Detroit, MI. In 1930 he would become the professor of Applied Christianity at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Hardcover with spine lettering dulled. Corners bumped. Ownership inscription and ink stamp to the front free endpaper. Small bookseller's ticket to the back pastedown. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. +Niebuhr reflects on his years of ministry in the inner city of Detroit. He later moved to become a professor at Union Theological Seminary in NYC. He was a polical activist and was influenced by the Marxists of the day.
