Retired 1995 Miss Martha All God’s Children "Matthew Henson" Bust, Proud Heritage Collection #8004. Artist Thomas Blackshear early collaboration with Miss Martha's Original, Matthew Henson. Limited Edition #26/5000. Mint contidition. Matthew Henson, an accomplished seaman and adventurer, the man Robert Peary chose to accompany him to the north pole in the spring of 1909. He did not get formal recognition until 1944 when Congress authorized a medal for all the men in the expedition. The following year he was honored with a silver medal for outstanding service to the U.S. In 1988 Henson's body was reburied in Arlington Cemetery beside Admiral Peary. Certificate of Authenticity provided. In original box. Box does have some shelf wear. Smoke/pet free home.
