THE EMPRESS EUGÉNIE (EUGÉNIE DE MONTIJO) Seen in profile like a cameo, these hardened wooden medallions were very fashionable under Napoleon III. There were a multitude of characters honored such as great philosophers, eminent ecclesiastics, famous people, politicians and, of course, crowned heads like this one representing Eugénie de Montijo. These medallions were made in Sezanne, France, in high-pressure molds and composed of a mixture of sawdust, ox blood and shellac among others. In perfect condition.
