Antique Bronze and Marble Busts of Voltaire and Rousseau - Dimensions are ; Voltaire - 7 9/16" high , 2 5/8" at the shoulders , with abase diameter of 3" . Rousseau - 7 5/16" high , 2 5/8" at the shoulders , with a base diameter of 3" . French philosopher and writer Francois Marie Arouet Voltaire ( 1694 - 1778 ) and Franco-Swiss philosopher Jean-Jacque Rousseau ( 1712 - 1778 ) , are the subjects of these two delicate antique bronze and marble busts . Voltaire the French Enlightenment philosopher , writer and historian was and is today renowned for his pointed attacks on the Catholic Church and Christianity in general and his brave advocacy of unfettered freedom of and from religion , support of free speech , and the unequivocal seperation of church and state . Rousseau , who was also a self taught musician and composer of the Kate Baroque period who played Viola , wrote of and spread the concept of the "collective will" , the singular purpose snd pursuit which the people of a nation , a culture , must actively and thoroughly snd unequivocally support . These pieces were produced in France in 1910 . They were meant to be displayed as a pair and on the rare occasion they are available as such they consistently command a price between 450 and 1000 Euros ( $495 - $1102 ) dependent on condition . This pair is in excellent condition for being 113 years old , yet we have priced them well under market .
